Spring Washers

Spring washers are disks of metal that form an irregular shape, so that when the washer is loaded it acts like a spring and deflects, providing a preload between the two surfaces. There are many different spring washer types including belleville washers, bowed or curved washer, conical washers, finger washers, wave washers and adjustable spacers.

Spring washers are primarily used in applications where manufacturing assemblies need a part to:

  • Take up play
  • Eliminate rattle
  • Maintain assembly tension
  • Compensate for expansion or contraction in materials after assembly
  • Absorb intermittent shock loads
  • Provide a controlled reaction under dynamic loads
